Trapping

Trapping

The abundance of wild life in the area provided locals with the opportunity to trap animals for their highly valued fur. From mink and nutria to otters and raccoons, these animals were trapped and skinned to be sold. However, in true Cajun fashion, nothing was wasted, and the animals were also used as a source of food for many families. Trapping was a way of life for many people in the area, and the techniques used have been passed down from generation to generation. Today, trapping still takes place in the region, but regulations have been put in place to ensure the responsible management of the wildlife population.
